Know what's in your drink before you take a sip.
Drink Scanner gives you full transparency into every beverage you consume. Simply scan the barcode of any drink — from sodas and juices to energy drinks and flavored water — and instantly receive a comprehensive analysis of its nutritional content, additives, and overall health impact. The app calculates a Nutri-Score from A to E, evaluates the NOVA processing level, and flags potentially harmful ingredients so you can make informed choices at the store or restaurant.
At the core of Drink Scanner is a database of over 300 food additives (E-numbers), each classified by risk level based on current scientific literature. The app identifies artificial sweeteners, preservatives, colorants, and emulsifiers in your drink, and explains what each one does and what concerns, if any, have been raised by food safety authorities. Whether you're watching your sugar intake, avoiding certain sweeteners, or simply curious about what "E150d" means, Drink Scanner has you covered.
The built-in product comparator lets you place two drinks side by side and compare their nutritional profiles, additive loads, and overall grades. This is especially useful when choosing between similar products — for example, comparing a regular cola with its zero-sugar variant, or evaluating two brands of orange juice. You'll see exactly where one product outperforms the other.
Drink Scanner also supports a home screen widget that shows your most recent scan result at a glance, and lets you share detailed reports with friends, family, or your nutritionist. All analysis happens locally on your device — no account required, no data uploaded to external servers.
Get the official Nutri-Score rating and NOVA food processing classification for every scanned beverage, helping you understand both nutritional quality and how processed your drink really is.
Every E-number and additive is cross-referenced against a comprehensive database with risk classifications, descriptions, and regulatory status across different countries.
Compare two beverages side by side to see which one scores better on nutrition, additives, sugar content, and overall health impact before you make your choice.
See every ingredient listed on the label, with color-coded safety indicators and detailed explanations of what each component does and why it's there.
Add a widget to your iPhone home screen to view your last scan result instantly without opening the app. Quick access to grades and key nutritional data.
Generate beautiful scan reports that you can share via message, email, or social media. Export your scan history for personal tracking or to discuss with a healthcare provider.
Point your camera at the barcode on any beverage. The scanner recognizes all standard barcode formats instantly.
The app retrieves the product's full data — ingredients, nutrition table, and metadata — from the Open Food Facts database.
Each ingredient is cross-referenced against our additive database to identify E-numbers, sweeteners, colorants, and preservatives with their risk levels.
A final health grade is calculated based on sugar content, additive risk, processing level, and nutritional balance, displayed as a simple A to E score.
Drink Scanner relies on Open Food Facts, the world's largest open-source food product database. With millions of products catalogued by volunteers and verified by the community, Open Food Facts provides ingredient lists, nutrition tables, allergen data, and product images for beverages sold worldwide. The database is continuously updated as new products enter the market, ensuring that Drink Scanner stays current.
Our additive classification system is built on published research from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the World Health Organization (WHO), and peer-reviewed nutritional science journals. Each of the 300+ additives in our database has been individually assessed and assigned a risk category that is reviewed and updated regularly.
How Drink Scanner calculates grades
Excellent — Low sugar, no harmful additives, minimal processing. A top-tier beverage choice.
Good — Moderate sugar or minor additives present. A generally healthy option with small caveats.
Fair — Notable sugar content or several low-risk additives. Acceptable in moderation.
Poor — High sugar, artificial sweeteners, or moderate-risk additives. Consume sparingly.
Avoid — Very high sugar, multiple harmful additives, or ultra-processed. Consider alternatives.
Grades are calculated using a weighted algorithm that considers sugar content (including hidden sugars), sweetener types and their safety profiles, the risk level and quantity of additives present, the NOVA ultra-processing score, and the official Nutri-Score. The result is a single, easy-to-understand letter grade from A (best) to E (worst).
