Track, understand, and manage your glycemic health.
Diabetes Manager is a comprehensive glycemic index tracker designed to help people with diabetes — or anyone monitoring their blood sugar — make smarter food choices and track their glucose levels over time. The app includes a database of over 155 foods classified by their glycemic index (GI) value, allowing you to quickly look up how different foods will affect your blood sugar. Whether you are managing Type 1, Type 2, or gestational diabetes, the app provides the tools you need to understand and control your glycemic response.
The blood sugar logging feature lets you record your glucose readings throughout the day, with timestamps and optional meal notes. All logged data is visualized using Swift Charts, Apple's native charting framework, which produces clean, interactive graphs showing your blood sugar trends over days, weeks, and months. You can identify patterns — such as post-meal spikes or overnight drops — and share these visualizations with your healthcare provider for more informed consultations.
The meal impact prediction feature calculates the estimated glycemic load of your meals based on the foods you select from the database. By combining glycemic index values with portion sizes and carbohydrate content, the app predicts how a particular meal is likely to affect your blood sugar. This is invaluable for meal planning and helps you learn which food combinations keep your glucose levels stable versus those that cause sharp spikes.
Diabetes Manager also includes educational content about glycemic response and carbohydrate metabolism, explaining concepts like the difference between glycemic index and glycemic load, why fiber slows glucose absorption, and how protein and fat in a meal can modify the glycemic response. The app supports personalized tracking for different diabetes types, recognizing that management strategies differ significantly between Type 1, Type 2, and gestational diabetes.

Diabetes Manager is powered by an internal scientific database compiled from international glycemic index research and diabetes management guidelines. The GI values for all 155+ foods are sourced from peer-reviewed studies published in journals such as the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition and Diabetes Care, as well as the International Tables of Glycemic Index and Glycemic Load Values maintained by the University of Sydney.
The educational content and management recommendations are aligned with guidelines from the American Diabetes Association (ADA), the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), and the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD). Our database is regularly updated as new glycemic index research is published and clinical guidelines are revised.
How Diabetes Manager classifies foods
Excellent — Very low glycemic index (GI ≤ 35). Minimal impact on blood sugar. Ideal for regular consumption in a diabetes management diet.
Good — Low glycemic index (GI 36–55). Gentle blood sugar response. Safe for most meals when combined with balanced macronutrients.
Moderate — Medium glycemic index (GI 56–69). Noticeable blood sugar impact. Best consumed in controlled portions alongside low-GI foods.
Poor — High glycemic index (GI 70–85). Significant blood sugar spike expected. Consume sparingly and monitor glucose response carefully.
Avoid — Very high glycemic index (GI > 85). Rapid and severe blood sugar spike. Best avoided or consumed only in very small amounts.
Foods are classified primarily by their Glycemic Index value: Low (GI ≤ 55), Medium (GI 56–69), and High (GI ≥ 70). The grade also factors in glycemic load, which accounts for typical serving sizes, giving you a more practical understanding of how much a real-world portion of each food will affect your blood sugar levels.
